Harper's 1st Birthday Party, Part One

I'm so excited to share pictures from Harper's first birthday party!  I put quite a bit of thought into the party, even though it was a fairly small party with just our close family and a couple of friends.  I wish we could have invited more friends, but our house is just too small.  Plus I didn't want the party to be too overwhelming for Harper.

Jason's mom hand-smocked the most adorable dress for Harper to wear at her party:

Debbie spent a lot of time on this dress and I think it turned out perfect!  I used the fabric as inspiration when planning the party, starting with the homemade invitations:

I also made a coordinating happy birthday banner, cupcake toppers, favor tags, and a birth-to-12 month picture banner:

Harper smiled and squealed every time she saw these pictures!

Harper was so happy throughout the party {except for when a little cake got up her nose}.  And she had so much fun playing with her cousins.  I could not have asked for a better evening :)

For dinner I served crock pot pulled pork sliders {with Bodacious sauce of course!}, hashbrown casserole, watermelon {Harp's favorite}, and salad.  Everyone loved the sliders. I will definitely be making those again!

The next post will include the cake pictures.  There are a lot of those :)

12 months

Here is the 12 month post {just 12 days late}, along with just a few of my favorite pictures of Harper from the past year.

Harper had another growth spurt this past month.  She now weighs around 20 pounds and is 29.75 inches tall according to the nurse's measurements at her well-child visit last Friday {and we all know how accurate those measurements are}.  I guess it's about time for the next car seat.  Oh- and no new teeth.  She has the 4 on top and 2 on bottom.

She loooooves animals.  She squeals so loud and smiles so big even when she just sees them on TV {real or animated}.  It's so cute!

She also loves other little kids.  She smiles and waves at them, but rarely gets a wave or smile in return.

She can say mama, dada, bye bye, and uh oh.  She actually talks a lot and will carry on a conversation with us.  It's just in her own little language ;)  {You can forget that santa comment in her 11 month post.  She was saying "sata" at the time, but doesn't do it anymore.}

I cut her down to only nursing 3 times a day a few days before her birthday.  She seemed a little upset at first, but as long as she gets fed when she is hungry she doesn't seem to care whether it is breast or solids.

She won't drink anything but water out of the sippy cup, and you still can't feed her anything from a spoon {we've just started trying to teach her how to use utensils, but I'm not very consistent at it}.  It still amazes me that she never took a paci and never ate any baby food, ever.

She is a good eater when she is given something she likes, but she is not always good about trying new foods {although she seems more willing to at dinner than during the day.}  Her favorite foods include watermelon, cantaloupe, string cheese, peas, corn, meatballs, muffins {but not blueberry}, kix cereal, grilled nuggets from Chic-Fil-A, cheese quesadilla and black beans from Freebirds, and a couple different pasta casserole meals that I make.

She loves music.  She bounces and sways when music starts playing.  It always makes me smile.

She will grab our feet when she wants to be tickled, and she starts giggling before we even touch her.

She crawls or backs up into my lap when I'm sitting on the floor with her.  Melts my heart every time.

She will give me "kisses" when I ask for them.  She loves on her stuffed animals, too.  Again, melts my heart.

She is not walking on her own, but she walks with push toys or holding our finger{s} with complete ease.  She got a stroller walker at her birthday party and walked around with it for probably 45 minutes that night.  {She actually took a couple steps on Sunday and again today...}

The #1 comment that we have gotten from strangers since day 1 {literally- the aide that took us to the post-partum room was the first to say it} is how alert she looks.  It is so true.  Harper doesn't miss a thing.

I really wish I was a better writer so that I could truly explain Harper's personality.  She is such a funny, sweet, silly and smart little girl!  She brings us more joy and happiness than I can put into words, and Jason and I feel beyond blessed to have her in our life :)

Harper's 1st Birthday

As all of you know, our little girl turned one last week.  The last year has been amazing.  Truly amazing.  Harper brings us so much joy, and it has been so much fun watching her grow from a tiny, helpless newborn into a funny, sweet, and somewhat independent little girl.  Jason and I didn't do too bad ;)

I have so many pictures to post and birthday-related-things to blog about, including: Harper's birthday/trip to the zoo, 12 month stats & milestones, her birthday party, and a post with all of the monthly sticker pictures.

I'm going to start with Harper's actual birthday.

such a cutie

 and a sweetie

 "Oh Mom, not while I'm eating!"

Jason and I took Harper to the zoo on her birthday and, well, let's just say Harper had a good time :)

"I get to go to the zoo?!"

 "This is the best birthday EVER!"

 Picking out a stuffed animal to remember the day.

 One worn out little birthday girl.

I think the zoo membership we bought will be well worth it!
