more firsts

It's been a big week for Harper!  First the crawling on Sunday and then on Thursday her first two teeth started poking through!  I know it doesn't look like much, but you can definitely feel them!  I was kind of surprised that they showed up because {other than some crying when I put her down for her naps on Monday and Tuesday} her sleep has not been affected and she hasn't been extra fussy or anything.

Such a sweet, happy baby :)

Lots of firsts

Harper has had many firsts in the past week:  she started saying "dadadada", "babababa", and "mamamama" {and I swear, one time it was directed at me}; she started feeding herself Cheerios {which she LOVES}; and SHE'S CRAWLING!

The crawling started Sunday night and I took this video on my phone yesterday morning.  I have better ones on the actual video camera, but I have yet to figure out how to upload those onto the computer.

With all the new excitement, Harper is back to "fussing it out" at nap time.  Oh well.  She eventually goes to sleep and then she usually sleeps really good :)

**Editing to say that Harper is apparently NOT going to take an afternoon nap today.  I hope this is just a one time thing.

Also, the video doesn't appear to work on iPads {so probably not on iPhones either}.  Sorry.

just another random post

I was in the kitchen preparing dinner a couple nights ago while Harper was in the living room playing with her toys.  Harper suddenly got really quiet so I peaked around the corner to see what she was doing.  This is what I found...

8 months

Harper turned 8 months old on Sunday.  How is that possible?!?  Here is what she is up to at the moment...

She weighs about 16# 5 ounces.  She still wears size 2 diapers and is wearing 6 month, 9 month or 6-12 month clothes.

She still sleeps anywhere from 10 to 12 hours at night {usually it's about 10.5 hours} and takes 2 good naps a day.  I'm almost afraid to admit this, but naps have been going wonderfully lately.  Harper puts herself to sleep quickly with no fussing at all.  I hope I don't regret writing this...

She still nurses 5 times a day and still refuses baby food {well, she pretty much refuses any food that she can't feed herself}.  She does demand that I give her food off of my plate at dinner... so she has eaten cooked broccoli, carrots, green beans, pasta, avocado, banana, sweet potato, and toast, and I just started giving her plain cheerios today.  The only baby food that she'll eat are the "Healthy Times" teething biscuits.  She can spend an hour on one of those.  And then she needs a bath.

She loves going on walks in the stroller.  Harper and I have gone on a walk almost every single morning the past couple months, and Jason, Harper and I sometimes go on a stroll to the park in the evenings.  We push Harper in the baby swing and she loves that, too.

I took her to Gymboree last week and she loved it.  We'll be going weekly now.

She amazes me every day with the new stuff she'll do.  The other night when I was giving her a bath, I asked if she was ready for me to wash her hair and she looked down and squeezed her eyes shut.  Such a smart little girl.

I love her laugh, her squeals, and the noises she makes when she's playing independently.  I love that she is so happy :)

Garden Party

So Erin and David's Garden Party was a few weekends ago and I realized today {after Erin posted pictures from the Garden Party on Facebook} that I never had a post about it!  It was such a perfect afternoon.  The weather could not have been better, the food was amazing as always, and sitting around in a shaded, pretty backyard with a cold drink, chatting with friends... again, perfect.

{I took the pictures with my phone so they're a little blurry.  Except for the last picture- I downloaded that one off of Erin's Facebook page.}

 The Garden Turkey Wraps were my favorite.  I can't remember what all was in them, but they were delicious.  I didn't get a picture of the drinks, but one of the drinks was fresh squeezed lemonade infused with rosemary.  Wow.

Harper really enjoyed herself.  It's too bad we live in Houston where it is already unbearably hot outside during the day.  Harper and I would spend most of our day outside if we lived somewhere a little cooler.

 Thanks again Erin and David!!  I'm almost embarrassed to host May's Dinner Club ;)

Harp's new tricks

Harper has some new tricks up her sleeve...

Like drinking from a straw cup.  She actually does get a little water up the straw, but not a lot.  She mostly likes playing with it.

And Harper can now push herself up into a sitting position when she's on her stomach. {So we went ahead and lowered her crib last weekend.  Now my mom can sleep at night again.}  However, she seems to forget that she can do this.  She's done it once a day since she first did it last Thursday.  On Saturday, she sat up behind the curtain in the living room...

 Peekaboo!!

And she LOVES to stand up at the ottoman or the windowsill in the living room.  {She also LOVES to scratch up our ottoman with her nails.  The weathered look is "in" though, right?}

I think she is really close to crawling.  I got the video camera out three times yesterday thinking she was about to, but she just rocked on her knees and then sat back on her bottom.  Part of me is ready for her to start crawling because she'll be more independent, but the other part of me is not ready to start chasing after her!
